Just like a finely tailored suit, your clubs should be customized with precision and care so that they fit your body. And here’s the thing: You won’t just look sharp; you’ll play sharp.

Performance is our goal. That’s how it should be with any custom club fitting. When you play with a well-tailored club, the difference will be evident from the first swing. At Illini Golf Headquarters, we will put the best club in your hand so that you can play to the best of your ability.

How a Custom Club Fitting Works

Your body and swing are unique. Very few people will have your exact height, arm length, hand size and swing speed. So it doesn’t make sense to outfit everyone as if they did—that would be like giving everyone the same tennis size shoe and expecting them to run a 10k!

  • Headspeed – Clubhead Speed measures how fast the clubhead and shaft are moving during the swing. Along with the other Swing DNA measurements, clubhead speed is important to determine the optimal shaft to maximize distance and trajectory.

Tempo – Tempo measures how quickly the player transitions from the backswing to the downswing. It’s determined by the speed of transition from back swing to down swing and helps determine the weight of the shaft. Finding the correct weight improves timing for optimum energy release during ball contact

Toe Down – Shaft Toe Down measures the bowing of the shaft in a downward direction during the downswing. Along with the Shaft Kick Angle, Toe Down is an important measurement in determining the proper shaft “bending profile” to help tighten dispersion with greater consistency.

Kick Angle – Shaft Kick Angle measures the amount of shaft forward bending during the downswing motion. Along with the Shaft Toe Down, Kick Angle is an equally important factor in determining the proper shaft “bending profile” to help tighten dispersion with added consistency.

Release Factor – Release Factor is a measurement of how and when the clubhead and shaft are releasing during the downswing motion. Depending on when you release the clubhead, earlier or later in the swing, determines the ideal shaft profile for better timing, which leads to better ball striking.

  • CLEVELAND WEDGE ANALYZER

The Wedge Analyzer, powered by Swingbyte, captures the motion of the wedge throughout the entire swing, including the delivery into the ball just before impact.

Using the golfer’s swing data and typical turf conditions, the Wedge Analyzer recommends the proper bounce and sole grind to optimize scoring.

Also included is a database of pitching wedge lofts to help determine the correct wedge lofts for consistent distance gaps.

  • PING • N • FLIGHT SYSTEM

A SMARTER APPROACH –  From the fitting pioneer, a software package engineered to precisely model, digitally analyze and scientifically compare every aspect of every shot to ensure the most thorough and dependable fitting results available today.

3D ENVIRONMENT – A virtual 3D environment illustrates ball flight characteristics during a dynamic fitting session. The 360 degree view port provides 3D analysis of every shot in the session. Viewing from various angles provides the fitter and golfer valuable insight into ball flight and bounce/roll results

SCIENTIFIC ANALYSIS Every shot is captured and analyzed to ensure precise recommendations. Shots are modeled based on launch parameters, temperature, altitude and fairway conditions to digitally analyze ball flight for comparison and validation.

SET GAPPING Based on the average carry distance of clubs hit during the fitting session and other preferences captured in the interview section, the software provides a gapping analysis feature to help the fitter and golfer determine the set makeup which best optimizes distance gaps and performance.

  • I • PING PUTTER APP

“Innovation takes many forms,” said John A. Solheim, PING Chairman & CEO. “The iPING app allows you to analyze your putting stroke more closely than ever. It works like a launch monitor for putters by measuring key aspects of your stroke to improve your consistency. Besides that, it’s a lot of fun to use and has several other features.”

The iPING app analyzes and displays your consistency onscreen using three criteria: stroke type (determined by how much the putter face rotates during the forward stroke); impact angle (the putter’s face angle at impact, relative to address); and tempo (a measure of the duration of the backswing relative to the forward swing).

The app works by computing consistency over a series of five putts where your stroke type, impact angle and tempo are measured, displayed and stored for every putt in that session.

The iPING Fit feature matches you with the PING putter models that fit your stroke type. Matching your putter to your stroke type is the key to greater consistency and lower scores. That’s why we’ve classified every current PING model by its face angle and corresponding stroke type, an approach to putter fitting we call Fit for Stroke™.

“We’ve done thousands of hours of player testing that show when a golfer’s putter balance matches their stroke type, their consistency goes way up, and they make a lot more putts,” Solheim said. “As many times as we use our putter during a round, Fit for Stroke offers great potential to shoot lower scores.”

You can access iPING Fit via the launch screen or the “More” tab on the iPING app’s home screen. The first step is to hit a series of five putts. After the session, the app displays a shaft label color-coded by stroke type: blue for straight strokes, green for slight arcs, and red for strong arcs.
